Although ticks are commonly associated with woodlands the University of Galway found mnay cases of Lyme disease prevalent in Connemara, a region most known for it's peat bogs. http://ticktalkireland.wordpress.com/2011/01/24/lyme-mapping-west-of-ireland/

Ticks love anywhere moist as it prevents them from dehydrating hence long grass, peat bogs & heathland areas are ideal. In June (2012) Tick Talk Ireland will be hosting a conference on Lyme disease in Dublin to raise awareness of this terrible disease. Suitable for walkers, hunters, pet owners, farmers, vets, park rangers, doctors, nurses, scientists & patients. All are welcome!Tick Talk Irelandhttp://www.ticktalkireland.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5262012127227696596.post-72463513276808304652010-01-06T21:10:39.770+00:002010-01-06T21:10:39.770+00:00Thank you for sharing your story It is horrifying...Thank you for sharing your story It is horrifying. I was bitten in central Scotland in 2004 but didn't get treatment till 2007. I had the initial rash and all the classic symptoms but, despite seeing six doctors (2 GPs and 4 consultants), didn't get a diagnosis for 3 years. One GP thought you couldn't get Lyme disease in the UK, a dermatologist froze off the rash, a rheumatologist told me if I'd had Lyme disease more than a year they wouldn't treat me so there was no point in testing me, a second GP refused to test me, others didn't even consider it. My rash regrew and was cut out and biopsied but they didn't test for Lyme. Since forcing my GP to refer me to an Infectious Diseases consultant, I've been on high-dose antibiotics (400mg doxycycline per day)for 3 years now. They keep things at bay so I can now work part-time but I can't come off them without all the symptoms returning. I don't know when the nightnmare will end and wish one of those doctors had had more of a clue. Take care when dealing with ticks and don't expect your doctors to know what to do if you get bitten.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5262012127227696596.post-1433856528916181372009-07-14T23:48:38.763+01:002009-07-14T23:48:38.763+01:00I believe that many Vets stock the tick-hooks or y...I believe that many Vets stock the tick-hooks or you can get them from BADA-UK see their website http://www.bada-uk.org/products/tickremover.phpSimon Thorphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03630178961897114211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5262012127227696596.post-27423819176529941362009-07-13T21:13:07.477+01:002009-07-13T21:13:07.477+01:00Where can you get a tick hook from?
